Frost Byte (ROCS @ NSIDC Newsletter), vol. 6, iss. 1

News

Happy 2009!  We hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays, and we feel sure that you are all ready to get right back to work! OK, you might actually feel more like you need the day off, but we have a new look and new URL with which to entertain you.

In an effort to update Frost Byte’s look to match our new identity as ROCS @ NSIDC, we have changed our blogware to wordpress with a cleaner, more professional look.  Please change your bookmarks/favorites to http://rgbrocs.wordpress.com/ . We still have some work to do and hope to continue to improve the look and feel throughout 2009.

Gloria is also working on improvements to the catalog’s search function in an effort to make it easier to use and read.

Allaina is happy to report that in 2008 5,484 glacier photos were added to the online collection.  This was big news as the size of the collection more than doubled from the start of the year.  Thanks to everyone who is involved in this process – the NOAA team, I-Pin and the OPS students, especially Michael who spends many long hours checking the quality of the scans before they are added to the collection, as well as gathering the necessary metadata for each image.

Staff Report

Gloria will be out of the office on January 9.
